One of my favorite poster artists is Tom Whalen. His Steamboat Willie print proudly hangs in my office and always garners praise. Now Tom has paid homage to my favorite author, Stephen King by creating this wonderful new signed and numbered print entitled “Room 237”.
The Shining-inspired print features elements from the King novel and Kubrick film. Whalen released “Room 237” at the recent Los Angeles Crazy 4 Cult art show and a few posters are still available HERE for $50.
A nice touch is the barely visible typing. Tom Whalen’s “Room 237″ print measures 16.9″ x 22.5″ and is limited to an edition of 80.
Coca-Cola Philippines and World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines (WWF) today unveiled the first plant billboard in the country, an iconic structure to represent the long-standing partnership between the two organizations to make a positive difference in the environment.
The 60 x 60 ft. plant billboard, located along Northbound EDSA-Forbes, utilizes a thriving species of Fukien tea plant, which absorbs air pollutants. According to botanist Anthony Gao, each plant can absorb up to 13 pounds of carbon dioxide in a year, on the average. “This billboard helps alleviate air pollution within its proximate areas as it can absorb a total of 46,800 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, on estimate.” Gao says.
Recyclable materials were used for the overall make-up of the billboard. 3,600 pots were used, recycling old bottles of various Coca-Cola products. These bottles were filled with a potting mixture made up of a combination of industrial by-products and organic fertilizers-a formulation that is stable and light-weight. These bottles were also designed to contain the plants securely and to allow the plants to grow sideways. Additional holes were made for proper drainage and for holding the drip lines in place.
A drip irrigation system, also known as trickle irrigation or micro-irrigation, was especially installed for efficient water distribution. This irrigation method saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, through a network of valves, pipes, tubing and emitters. The system is operated on a schedule to distribute water with nutrients to the plants. It provides the plants with what they need when they need it.

Each location will have The Restaurant Entertainment Network installed, which consists of a point of sale and dining room network plus installation of free Wi-Fi for guests.

To expand their online sales, South Korean supermarket chain Home Plus launched an ingenious ad campaign of virtual stores installed on subway platforms. The campaign consisted of 2D displays laid out exactly like actual store shelves. Commuters browsed the virtual shelves and ordered products with their smartphones by capturing the QR codes next to each item. The products were then delivered to the customers’ homes after the evening commute. The ad campaign was created by the Cheil Worldwide which earned the ad agency a 2011 Cannes Lions award.
The Wall Street Journal has made a portrait of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter in their iconic style for each of their respective reviews of the films throughout the years. Here is a composite of all seven.
The first five hedcuts (stipple portraits) featured below were commissioned for the print edition of the Journal to appear alongside Joe Morgenstern’s film reviews.
The sixth portrait in the set was drawn separately by Randy shortly after “Half-Blood Prince” appeared in theaters.
Now that the film series is coming to its dramatic conclusion, the Wall Street Journal decided to have Radcliffe immortalized in dots one last time. Here’s the latest work by artist Bonnie Gayle Morrill.
Emma Butler was inspired by the “minimalist movie poster” trend and created these images. The prints are made up of all the memorable parts and props that are featured in some of her favorite movies; Back to the Future, Top Gun, Juno, Mighty Ducks and Forrest Gump.
All posters in the Movie Parts Poster Series are available for sale, together or separately! Head over to http://backpocket.goodsie.com/ to purchase.
