For Sale: A $160,000 Apple Computer
November 14, 2010True Apple computer fans take note…
This machine is loaded with three capacitors, 8 kilobytes of random access memory, a printed circuit board with 4 rows A-D and an Apple-1 motherboard.
Why so much for this archaic programmable machine? Well, this is one of the very first computers ever made by Apple, and is considered the first personal computer. What separated this computer from others was the fact that the motherboard came pre-assembled, whereas home computer owners of the past had to fit and solder the parts together themselves.
The Apple-1 computer was built and sold by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founders, in 1976 for $666.66 — the strange price was put into effect because Mr. Wozniak liked repetitive numbers. (An inflation calculator determines that price is equivalent to $2560 in today’s dollars.) It’s estimated that only 200 of these computers were produced and sold before Apple moved onto the next model, the Apple II.
According to the auction Web site, this version of the Apple computer is number 82 of those made, and was hand built by Steve Wozniak and then “despatched from the garage of Steve Jobs’ parents’ house.

Aperion Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System
November 11, 2010Running wires to your surround speakers can be tough from both sides – either the wires themselves are hard to run or the speaker placement can be difficult. Aperion Audio’s new Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System ($500) brings reliable audiophile-grade surround sound to your home theater in a pair of high-quality wireless bookshelf speakers. The built-in wireless receivers and two-way power amplifiers in each speaker make Zona a simply beautiful and easy to install addition to most home theater systems.
Zona is easy to set up and operate — simply connect the transmitter to the Surround Pre-Out jacks of your AVR and plug the transmitter and speakers into a power outlet. Zona will automatically link up with a robust and high quality wireless connection. The low latency of the signal (less than 20ms), is ideal for watching the latest Dolby and DTS surround sound formats.
The Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System can also be used to play high fidelity music directly from a PC via its USB connector, or to send music throughout the house to any number of Zona speakers. The wireless technology automatically identifies and avoids other 2.4 GHz signals that could otherwise cause interference, so your music never takes a hit. Zona is a great solution for a wireless distributed sound network in your home or a small powered system for your desk or bookshelf.
