The pact goes awry and Shrek must confront what life would be like in Far Far Away if he had never existed. New Video Game Releases: March 8th – March 12th

March 9, 2010

Japana-fan boys rejoice!  This is your week as Final Fantasy XIII, the next epic installment in the hugely popular series, arrives in North America on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Now if you’re anything like me and you just can’t wrap your head around high futuristic anime fantasy but love everything else about the Japanese culture, then you probably want to check out Yakuza 3 for the PS3 instead.  The game is a brawling/RGP-lite adventure that puts you in the shoes of an everyday guy who runs an orphanage in Okinawa on some land that happens to be owned by the Japanese mob.  When it comes time that the mob boss decides to sell that land, it’s up to you to throw down some ultra-violent and gritty not-so-everyday kind of ass-beatings.  The game really has the sights and sounds of exploring Okinawa, Osaka, and Tokyo down.  The voice track is entirely in Japanese and subtitled, so fanboys will feel like they are the star of their very own Seijun Suzuki gangster movie.  Let’s face it, Yakuza 3 is probably the closest you’re ever gonna get to visiting the beast from the east from your couch.  If that’s not enough for you, the limited edition of the game even comes with a zip-lock baggie containing a soiled pair of panties from an actual love hotel vending machine…

Okay… alright…  I’m kidding about the baggie.  But not about Yakuza 3 being my pick of the week.  All in all, seventeen new releases this week.  Go spend some of that hard earned money.
