Logorama

March 20, 2010

Probably very few people know about or have seen this year’s Oscar winner for Best Animated Short Film, Logorama.

From a collaborative effort of directors François Alaux, Herve de Crecy, and Ludovic Houplain, the short is approximately 17 minutes long.

Imagine a modern day Los Angeles, in which everything from the buildings to the cars to the people are made up of popular logos.

The short film would be quite impressive without a story, just a series of shots and pans of this impressive city, but instead the audience is thrown into an epic noir story that turns into an even more epic disaster film.

Please note that the video contains very strong language and is not suitable for children.

The model is simple: a project creator sets a fundraising goal, deadline, and an optional set of rewards for backers. If the goal’s reached by the deadline, then everyone’s charged via Amazon Payments and the backers get their goodies. If the goal’s not reached, nobody’s charged. It’s all or nothing.

Tim Burton Making 3-D Animated ‘Addams Family’

March 18, 2010

Coming off the success of Alice in Wonderland for Disney, Tim Burton is aligning himself with Universal’s Illumination Entertainment and producer Chris Meledandri to resurrect The Addams Family.

The goal is to create a stop-motion animated film in 3D, similar to what Burton is doing with Frankenweenie right now. A writer for The Addams Family is currently being sought and, it will hold no relation to the television series or the two feature films starring Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston.

Burton will provide the visual palette for the picture which will invoke creator Charles Addams’ original drawings. The director is also developing Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.

PS Publishing’s ‘One For The Road’ By Stephen King Limited Edition Book Available In April

March 17, 2010

PS Publishing in the UK creates gorgeous sturdy books that are true keepsakes.  I’m proud to have quite a few of them on my bookshelf. The Publisher, Pete Crowther pays tremendous attention to detail on each edition ensuring the  highest standard of production and artistic quality.

A PS  book that I am especially interested in is coming out in the next few weeks.  One of Stephen King’s finest short stories, ‘One For The Road’ will be released in a special landscape PS edition featuring 18 brand new full-page and full-color illustrations from James Hannah.

The Publisher describes the narrative of this haunting tale, a sequel of sorts to Stephen King’s bestselling novel, ‘Salem’s Lot’:

“This much-loved tale is narrated by Booth, an elderly resident of a small Maine town that neighbors the infamous Jerusalem’s Lot, and it takes place a couple of years after the events in King’s novel. Booth describes a winter’s night years ago, when he and his friend, a bar owner named Herb Tooklander (Tookey), receive a visit from a distressed motorist named Gerard Lumley, whose vehicle had become stranded in a ferocious blizzard . . . with his wife and daughter still inside. At first critical of Lumley for driving in such weather, both men are horrified when they realise that Lumley’s car is stranded in Jerusalem’s Lot, widely regarded to have ‘gone bad’. Nevertheless, they still decide to drive out in a snow plough and attempt to save Lumley’s family. Instead, they barely manage to save themselves.”

The limited edition book will be produced in two states: an unsigned jacketed 500-copy hardcover ($120) and a 100-copy slipcased hardcover signed by the artist ($280). Shipments will be in April.

600 copies is a very small print run for a Stephen King title and these will sell out fast.  For more information about the book or to order directly, please click HERE.
