September 9, 2009

McDonald’s is testing a new product called the “Big Mac Snack Wrap” which is basically a burrito filled with the insides of a Big Mac.  Thank you McDonald’s for finally responding to my many letters and countless phone calls in which I requested that you create the “McBeef Tube”. Sadly it is only being launched in Canada, Houston, Phoenix, Milwaukee, and Michigan City.

Loopa Gyroscopic Toddler Bowls

September 9, 2009

Toddlers are always busy trying to master a wide variety of skills, but two things they are really not good at are being neat and sitting still. The Loopa Gyroscopic Toddler Bowls ($10) address both of these issues at once, giving little ones a bowl they can tote around with them that stays upright and keeps stuff inside, no matter how they twist and turn it. The inner bowl is weighted so that it rotates with your child’s movements, and the outer ring features hand grips for easy toting. (From Playgrounder)

Tom Welling’s New Smallville Superman Costume

September 8, 2009

Smallville Season Nine will see Tom Welling take on a on some new roles, at least one of which has the actor dressing up in a costume that resembles The Punisher more that it does The Man of Steel. Clark Kent will put on a big, black jacket and “S” logo for the upcoming season, while Welling claims the director’s chair for at least one episode.

Season Nine, which premiers on September 25th with its first episode, “Savior,” will finally make Clark grow up and transition into Superman as it brings on guest writer Geoff Johns for an episode. The season will also feature guest stars Metallo, General Zod and the Wonder Twins, according to Screen Rant.

Clark’s new, all-black look recalls Superman’s post-resurrection look following his death at the hands of Doomsday in the comics. The long black jacket, though, gives him a little bit of an edge in the tradition of Frank Castle. Since we know that the boy who would become Superman will be making some difficult decisions in Season Nine that involve taking on the Superman identity full-time, it will be interesting to see what kind of Superman he becomes and whether this darker look influences his heroics.

New Series of Time Travel Posters by The Echo Park Time Travel Mart

September 6, 2009

The Echo Park Time Travel Mart has just announced their new poster series for The Federation for the Advancement of Time designed by LA artist Amy Martin, a follow-up to last year’s series of time travel posters. Proceeds help support 826LA, part of 826 National, a family of regional non-profit organizations, each with a unique theme, that helps students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills.

This year’s collection is in collaboration with the The Federation for the Advancement of Time-because no matter when you live, it’s always the right time for good temporal citizenship! Each poster promotes a civic message for good citizenship in the far past or distant future, transforming the predictable aesthetic of the WPA poster with ironic sloganeering such as “Fire Good…But Also Bad” and “Robots! Clean Your Drives Daily,” coupled with clean, retro graphic design.
