Star Trek 2 Might Bring Back William Shatner

May 18, 2009

With talk of a sequel to Star Trek going around, director J.J. Abrams has been discussing the possibility of bringing back some old favorites.

“The fun of this (new alternate Trek reality) is that the destiny of these characters is in their hands — it’s not constrained by the pre-existing films or TV series,” stated Abrams. “Believe me, whether it’s William Shatner or Khan … it would be ridiculous to not be open to those ideas.”

Of course, the circumstances behind either’s appearance may be very different from what we’ve seen before, but Abrams doesn’t think that will hinder their characterizations or how they interact with one another. Khan might still hate Kirk, for example.

“(Khan and Kirk) exist — and while their history may not be exactly as people are familiar with, I would argue that a person’s character is what it is,” said Abrams, explaining that new-Khan could be as bad as old-Khan despite disimilar backstories. “Certain people are destined to cross paths and come together, and Khan is out there … even if he doesn’t have the same issues.”

It’s a theme that Abrams already touched upon in the first film, with the Enterprise’s legendary crew assembling thanks to seemingly random occurrences, e.g. Sulu replacing a sick crew member and Kirk being stranded on Delta Vega only to find and bring back Scotty.

Best Signature Ballpark Foods in the U.S.

May 16, 2009

Some still subscribe to the popular belief that consuming anything except hot dogs and beer at a baseball game, with or without a Cracker Jack chaser, is as un-American as crêpes. But let’s be (ahem) frank. When given a wealth of gustatory delights to choose from, it’s increasingly difficult to justify a lukewarm hot dog on a moist bun. We took a tasting tour through the country’s top major league stadiums, searching for the culinary equivalents of a home run. HERE are the imaginative, often over-the-top dishes that we thought—quite simply—hit it out of the park.

Why George Drew 007 Into Meredith’s Hand On The Grey’s Anatomy Finale

May 15, 2009

In the first episode of the series, Burke chose George to do a procedure, an appendectomy. When inverting the stump, George pulled to hard on the strings and wound up tearing the tstrings and making the area around the appendix contaminated. Burke had to step in before the patient went septic and possibly died. Up in the gallery, the other interns were betting on how long George would last before he had to ask for assistance. When the strings tore Christina labeled George “007″ and Alex filled in “Licensed to kill”, a James Bond reference.

Pixar Unveils New Toy Story 3 Character in Up – Can You Find It?

May 15, 2009

Pixar’s first peek at a never-before-seen character from 2010’s Toy Story 3 will appear briefly in the upcoming movie, Up.

“On Monster’s Inc, when Sulley is putting Boo back in her room, and he’s going to say goodbye to her, she hands him all these toys,” said Pete Docter, a director on Up and Monsters and a writer on the Toy Story films. “One of them was this fish – which was Nemo – but nobody knew it at the time, because Finding Nemo hadn’t come out yet. We have a similar thing in Up.

And the toy glimpsed isn’t Woody or Buzz but a whole new Toy Story character. “We’re showing a character from Toy Story 3 that nobody knows about,” Docter said. “That’s somewhere in there.”

“There’s a shot where a little girl is in her room and the house goes by,” the producer said of a seemingly simple reaction scene near the beginning of the film, in which a young girl is surprised by the flying house soaring past her bedroom. “She’s playing with her toys. She’s playing with her little plane. She gets up, and she looks (out the window) – under her bed is one of the new stars of Toy Story 3.”

Wicked Prey By John Sanford Out This Week

May 14, 2009

For twenty years, John Sandford’s novels have been beloved for their “ingenious plots, vivid characters, crisp dialogue and endless surprises” (The Washington Post), and nowhere are those more in evidence than in the sudden twists and shocks of Wicked Prey.

The Republicans are coming to St. Paul for their convention. Throwing a big party is supposed to be fun, but crashing the party are a few hard cases the police would rather stayed away. Chief among them is a crew of professional stickup men who’ve spotted several lucrative opportunities, ranging from political moneymen with briefcases full of cash to that armored-car warehouse with the weakness in its security system. All that’s headache enough for Lucas Davenport—but what’s about to hit him is even worse.

A while back, a stray bullet put a pimp and petty thief named Randy Whitcomb in a wheelchair, and, ever since, the man has been nursing his grudge into a full head of psychotic steam. He blames Davenport for the bullet, but it’s no fun just shooting him. That wouldn’t be painful enough. Not when Davenport has a pretty fourteen-year-old adopted daughter that Whitcomb can target instead. . . .

And then there’s the young man with the .50 caliber sniper rifle and the right- wing-crazy background, roaming through a city filled with the most powerful politicians on earth. . . . Rich with his brilliant trademark suspense and some of the best characters in suspense fiction, Wicked Prey is further proof that “Sandford is one of the most consistently entertaining crime writers working today”
