Britain’s Got Talent Underdogs Are Viral Gold

April 20, 2009

Since just last week, the Internet has been awash in Susan Boyle madness. The dowdy, self-proclaimed “cat lady” swiftly earned her international stardom after a clip in which she belts out ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ on reality show Britain’s Got Talent went viral.

And that makes Boyle the fourth in a line of online video phenomenons straight from the show, where underdogs initially scoffed at by the audience take an arguably “unlikely” step into the spotlight, wowing the judges and earning internet fans across the globe.

Here are the most famous underdogs from Britain‘s Got Talent, all of whom you may already know, but if not, you should. Grab your tissues — it’s a sobfest.

Hulu Coming To The iPhone?

April 19, 2009

Silicon Alley Reporter notes that, according to a well-connected industry executive, a native Hulu application for the iPhone is coming soon (within a few months) and is reported to support streaming content over wifi and 3G.

Other video streaming applications for the iPhone (UStream, Joost and i.TV, to name a few) have met with, at best, mixed user reaction. Considering that Hulu is currently riding atop the throngs of sites offering mainstream television and film content online, expectations for this new offering will likely be quite high. Coupled with the recent rumblings regarding AT&T’s supposed unwillingness to fully embrace this type of content delivery over its cell network, it’s probably safe to say that Hulu on iPhone will be in the news again (and, perhaps, again) before the app sees the light of day.

American Idol Results From 4-15-09

April 15, 2009

American Idol” history was made tonight. Here is the recap:

Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert’s names were called first, and both were safe. The news wasn’t so great for Anoop Desai, who was the first singer to land in the bottom three. Kris Allen then stood up with Lil Rounds. Ryan asked Kris to take a seat on the couch of safety, sending Lil to the bottom three. Matt Giraud and Danny Gokey were the final pair of singers to stand up and learn their fate. Danny looked panicked, but Matt was the one to take the final spot in the bottom three. Ryan immediately sent one singer to safety. It was Anoop. That left Matt and Lil in the bottom, and Matt was the bottom vote-getter. After Matt sang for his life, Simon told him he didn’t think he had a chance to win the competition. The comment stung, as Matt shook his head. Then, Simon said, “It’s good news.” Matt was blown away as Ryan announced, “Idol history has been made,” due to the fact that for the first time in eight seasons, the judges used their own discretion to save a contestant who’d been voted off. Simon reminded everyone that the news wasn’t entirely great. Two singers will go home next week.

New Internet Radio Made For Pandora

April 15, 2009

I’m a big fan of the Pandora Web radio service because it provides a personal listening experience and new music discovery. Pandora uses your musical tastes to mix new artists with your old favorites.

On Wednesday, a new standalone Internet radio player was introduced that spotlights Pandora among thousands of other available Internet stations. The new Livio Radio (right), sold for $150, comes from Livio LLC, a subsidiary of the Michigan company that makes the delightful and recently reviewed Ira Wi-Fi Internet Radio.

Like the Ira product, the Livio Radio works with a Wi-Fi connection. But this bigger tabletop model also can be connected to the Web via an ethernet cable. The Livio includes a speaker, while the Ira was designed to work with a user’s existing speakers.

The built-in controls on the radio and on the remote control include “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” buttons reminiscent of the Pandora interface. These controls help users fine-tune their musical choices while listening to Pandora.

This is not the first device besides a computer that plays Pandora, of course. You can use Pandora on several smartphone models, including the iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices. Also, you can play Pandora on other gadgets, including the charming Chumby Internet alarm clock and a new Blu-ray player from Samsung.

If you like Internet radio and the Pandora service, I suspect you’ll like this new entry. (Thanks for the tip Don)

Samsung LN40B63 Television Review

April 15, 2009

With a 1080p display resolution, it’s perfect for that late night movie on the couch or Sunday afternoon watching the game with the guys. Crisp, clear, detailed images will make your viewing experience like none other experienced before. The ability to connect to the Internet is one of the television’s definite high points, allowing you to keep up with the latest stock quotes, weather and news via the INFOLINK feature. The Samsung LN40B630 is more than just a TV… It’s a work of art. It’s glossy black finish has a hint of red which gives it a classy look. This TV also is equipped with a swivel stand which allows adjustment for optimal angles.

The Picture-in-picture feature enables you to watch multiple channels at the same time.  There is an additional game mode which enhances both the picture and sound for video gamers. You can optimize these controls for better gaming. And as usual, Samsung provides the best quality in sound with two 10W stereo speakers. There is also the surround sound experience which allows you to hear absolutely crystal clear.

The Auto Motion Plus 120 Hz technology is a cut above the rest when it comes to an action packed screen. Absolutely no blurring or stuttering at all, it’s an extremely impressive TV. The contrast and brightness levels are also more defined. With little to no glare at all. This TV blew me away; once again Samsung delivers another breathtaking product!
