Bose On-Ear Headphones

January 16, 2009

After trying multiple pairs of in ear headphones, I found them to be uncomfortable and constantly had to readjust them.  Often times they would fall out of my ears so I opted for an over the ear design.  I wanted a pair of headphones that offered good range and rested comfortably on my ears without the bulk of “can” type phones that are too large or clumsy. The headphones would be used predominantly for travel.  I also wanted something mid-range as noise cancelling head phones can cost over $300.  After many listens, I think I found the right pair.

The Bose on-ear headphones ($162 at Bose.com) deliver clean, rich sound in a small, light, on-ear design. They weigh less than five ounces and the ear cups are softly padded with memory foam that gently conforms to the shape of your ears. They are designed to rotate from front-to-back and top-to-bottom for enhanced fit that reduces pressure points. The headphones also feature a collapsible headband and fold-flat ear cups. To pack them away, simply fold the cups flat, pivot them into the center of the headband and tuck them into their compact carrying case.

Although not noise cancelling, the headphones do block out quite a bit of external noise due to their clever design.  The compact folding mechanism makes it simple to slip them into a laptop bag.  My white trendy standard iPhone ear buds are now stored away and I look forward to my next airline flight as I will be able to listen to music versus fidgeting with loose and painful buds.

I highly recommend the Bose on-ear headphones if you are looking for a comfortable compact form coupled with a rich sound experience!

Coraline Boxes

January 16, 2009

This is a very creative idea to build buzz in the blog universe: the creators of Coraline, a movie inspired by the novella by Neil Gaiman, sent out 50 handmade boxes with items from the movie to their favorite bloggers.

Coraline is an animated stop-motion fantasy film directed by Henry Sellick (The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and The Giant Peach). The Coraline boxes contain items from the highly anticipated film such as dolls, wigs, suitcase, etc. and each is housed in a one-of-a-kind handmade box.

Now there is a hunt to find out which bloggers got the boxes and what the contents look like.  You can see some of the boxes HERE and HERE.

Perhaps there is an extra special box numbered 51 that was sent to The Fire Wire (subtle hint…)? I will diligently check my mailbox and pester my postman.

Warner Bros. and Fox Settle Watchmen Dispute

January 16, 2009

Warner Bros. and Fox have resolved their dispute over Watchmen, with the studios scheduled to present the settlement to Judge Gary Feess on Friday morning and request that the case be dismissed, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed, but it is said to involve a sizable cash payment to Fox and a percentage of the film’s box office. Fox will not be a co-distributor on the film, nor will it own a piece of the Watchmen property going forward. The studios are set to release a joint statement announcing the agreement Friday.

Fox sued Warners in February of 2008, claiming copyright infringement based on agreements the studio had with producer Larry Gordon. Feess ruled on Dec. 24 that Gordon did not secure the proper rights to Watchmen from Fox before shopping the project and eventually setting it up with Warners. Feess’ decision prompted settlement talks to heat up because Warners faced the prospect of an injunction stopping its March 6 release of the $130 million comic book adaptation.

While Gordon is not a party to the case, Warners is said to be pursuing the producer and his attorneys to reimburse it for the costs of the settlement.

The Polaroid PoGo – Print Photos From Your Camera!

January 10, 2009

The Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera is the second product in Polaroid’s PoGo family of products. Like the PoGo Instant Mobile Printer, which hit store shelves in July 2008, the PoGo Instant Digital Camera uses ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology, which essentially embeds the ink in the photo paper in the form of heat sensitive dye crystals, so the printer doesn’t need a separate ink cartridge. Before printing, the photo paper is white, with a thermal printhead bringing out the colors. Once the pictures are printed, they are immediately dry to the touch, durable and smudge and water resistant.

The Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera offers a full-featured digital camera with 100 percent inkless printing, 2-by-3-inch sticky-backed photos with or without borders, and the advantage of reviewing the captured photos on a three-inch color LCD screen before printing. The instant digital camera measures 4.7 inches wide by 3 inches tall and weighs 10 ounces.

“This is the digital version of our traditional instant camera, which consumers have loved since the 70s,” says Jon Pollock, Polaroid’s vice president and general manager for Digital Imaging. “With this product, Polaroid will bring the magic of instant photography to a whole new generation. It’s what consumers have told us they want–a fun, easy way to use a digital camera to print photos and share their memories instantly.”

The Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera will be available beginning in March 2009 at major retailers for a suggested retail price of $199. Ten-packs of ZINK Photo Paper retail for $4.99 and 30-packs for $12.99.
