Flight Of The Conchords Schedule Spring Tour

New Zealand duo Flight Of The Conchords will embark on an extensive North American tour this spring, beginning April 6 in Tampa, Fla.

The outing is timed to the conclusion of the second season of “Flight of the Conchords” on HBO, as well as the release of the group’s second full-length album on Sub Pop. Further details, including an album title and release date, are still being nailed down.

Apple’s Next iPhone Will Rule at Gaming

The next upgrade to Apple’s iPhone will have a strong focus on gaming, analysts and developers agree.

 

That’s because the gaming market is an increasingly juicy segment of the mobile multimedia space — and it’s one that Apple’s phenomenally successful iPhone is well-positioned to dominate.

 

“The iPhone and iPod Touch are becoming a major new handheld gaming platform, and if you look at the App Store and look at what’s doing well, that’s reflecting,” said Bart Decrem, CEO of Tapulous, developer of the popular Tap Tap Revenge iPhone game. “I would look forward to improvements in the device as a gaming platform both for the phone and iPod Touch.” (Read more HERE)

Prisoners’ Great Escape Stopped By A Light Pole

Two New Zealand prisoners who were handcuffed together as they fled a courthouse foiled their own getaway when they ran to opposite sides of a light pole, slammed into each other and fell to the ground. Jailers nabbed them as they struggled to their feet. Their escape on Wednesday was captured by a CCTV camera at Hastings District Court on New Zealand’s North Island. The footage shows the two men trying to make a break for it – but apparently forgetting they were joined at the wrist. (via Neatorama)

Kellogg’s is testing out the idea of making cereal boxes shorter and wider to save room in your cupboard and fit more on store shelves.  I like the idea because my wife cannot reach the top shelf where the cereal currently resides and now she can have her Raisin Bran Crunch whenever she wants.

 

Tattooed Lamborghini

The car was actually done in sharpie markers on the paint and then finished with a clear coat for protection. It took about 2 weeks total. The World’s Smallest Postal Service

The World’s Smallest Postal Service (WSPS) is a teeny tiny transcription service and roaming post office based in the San Francisco Bay Area and also available online.

Lea Redmond is the Postmaster, setting up her tiny mobile office in cafes and shops where passers-by can write a letter and have it turned into a “world’s smallest letter.” The letter ($8.00) is transcribed on a miniature desk in the tiniest of script, sealed with a miniscule wax seal with the sender’s initial pressed into it, packaged up with a magnifying glass in a glassine envelope, and finished off with a large wax seal. It is a double delight: for both the sender and the recipient, and the WSPS is very happy to provide this important service to the world.

A New Thing Is Coming

Matthijs van Heijningen will direct a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 horror-thriller The Thing.

The studio has set “Battlestar Galactica” executive producer Ron Moore to write the script.

The new project borrows heavily from the John W. Campbell Jr. short story “Who Goes There,” the basis of the Carpenter film and 1951 Howard Hawks original The Thing From Another World.

It is set in a Norwegian camp and chronicles how the alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp.

Most Ticketed Cars 2008

Here’s a neat little report on the most ticketed cars of 2008 compiled by a third party research group for the insurance companies…

ISO Quality Planning, a company specializing in helping insurance companies identify risk, has compiled a list of the most heavily ticketed vehicles on the road, and lead feet everywhere can check it out.

The group analyzed traffic data on 1.7 million drivers and established the probability of a driver of a given line of vehicles being ticketed. The Hummer and Scion tC dominated the list, receiving 463% and 460% over the average, respectively. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Jaguar XJ sedan and the Chevrolet Suburban attracted a mere 11% and 16% of expected tickets. Given that both the Hummer and the Jaguar are high-cost vehicles, it flips the idea that a huge price tag automatically means more police attention.

Some viewers have already gotten a glimpse of this image, as it’s the same as the cover for Music soundtrack, but this is the final poster for director Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. Opening in conventional and IMAX theaters on March 6, the graphic novel adaptation stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Patrick Wilson.

 

Amazon’s Kindle 2.0?

Amazon will host a media event in the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City on Feb. 9. The timing and the venue strongly suggest that Amazon will use the event to announce Kindle 2.0, which industry watchers say will likely be a slimmer and better-designed device, aimed at spurring adoption by more mainstream users.

 

“The holidays are still eight months away, consumer spending is down, and we are in the middle of a recession,” says Josh Martin, senior analyst with the Yankee Group. “But if they offer customers a good deal in terms of cost savings, the time may be right.”

 

Kindle is already a sleeper hit. It launched in November 2007, more than a decade after the first e-book readers, and more than a year after the launch of Sony’s critically acclaimed Reader, from which the Kindle borrowed an extremely legible E-Ink display. Kindle was widely panned by critics for its fugly, plasticky white looks, but heavy promotion on Amazon.com, plus an endorsement by Oprah, helped give it legitimacy — and the e-books business, too. Although Amazon has never released sales figures for the reader, the company has said that it was frequently one of the best-selling consumer electronics devices in its extensive catalog.
