Domino’s is running a strange promotion for its new Oven Baked Sandwiches. The pizza chain is offering a free sandwich … to anyone named Jared.
The first 1,000 Jareds to respond to the offer will receive a gift certificate for a free oven baked sub. Subway may have to retaliate and begin to deliver their sandwiches in a half hour or less in crappy small cars. The war is on.

Meredith, this one is for you…
Infomercials are typically a point of humor for the drunk, high and insomnia-prone. You stumble home from the bar or party at 4am, turn on the TV and laugh at how excited people are over solutions for modern living. But what about the products they sell on infomercials that might actually be worth writing down that impossibly long 800 number.
Through hearsay, our imagination, and some actual experience, HERE is COED’s list of the 10 products you’ve seen on TV that don’t completely suck. (Reprinted from COED Magazine)

A creative ‘live’ Banned Book Display can be seen at the Twin Hickory Public Library in Glen Allen, Virginia. Volunteer readers sit in the display and read banned and challenged books to educate onlookers about Banned Book Week.
The display has received a considerable amount of media attention. Perhaps other libraries and bookstores will duplicate this admirable reminder that Americans should not take this precious democratic freedom for granted.

It only took a few months for Bad Horse to get his stable in order, but the Evil League of Evil — finally – is accepting applications for new members HERE.
“I would encourage people sending in their submissions to know that the Evil League of Evil is no joke,” Neil Patrick Harris told us. “It’s legitimately hard-core to get in. I would know.”
Those who submit before October 11 have a chance at being included on the upcoming DVD commemorating the league’s most recent member, and already there are some interesting prospects of the hundred or so-and-counting who leaped at the chance. For instance, this pair has extensive experience, or so they claim, with guns, knives, hand-to-hand combat, and debilitating bad breath. This vampire even went to the trouble of singing about his plight. And this aspirant doesn’t even want to be in the League proper — she just wants a shot at being Dr. Horrible’s sidekick.
And now, the first official sing-along is happening in Los Angeles, with prospective ones to follow in other cities. Whedonopolis is presenting a Halloween showing at the Regency Fairfax Theater to benefit PATH Ventures. They say, “Come as your favorite villain, hero, sidekick, henchmen, or hammer.” (From the MTV Splash Page)

Apple has released iTunes 8.0.1, the first update to its digital media management application since the release of iTunes 8.0. According to the software’s release notes, iTunes 8.0.1 adds VoiceOver accessibility to iTunes 8 and iTunes U, improves stability and performance, and provides a number of bug fixes, including seamless playback of the current song when creating a Genius playlist, improved syncing of spoken menus to the fourth-generation iPod nano and checking for updates from the App Store, and fixes for an issue where HD TV episodes would be deleted while downloading. In our testing, the software also appears to have fixed an issue with some iTunes Store HDTV content where HD and SD episodes of certain programs were not properly linked, resulting in problems with both the syncing of content and keeping track of play counts. iTunes 8.0.1 is available now as a free download from iTunes.com or through Apple’s Software Update program.

When world-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a mysterious symbol — seared into the chest of a murdered physicist — he discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati…the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth. The Illuminati has now surfaced to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy — the Catholic Church.
Langdon’s worst fears are confirmed on the eve of the Vatican’s holy conclave, when a messenger of the Illuminati announces they have hidden an unstoppable time bomb at the very heart of Vatican City. With the countdown under way, Langdon jets to Rome to join forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to assist the Vatican in a desperate bid for survival.
Embarking on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati lair…a clandestine location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation.
An explosive international thriller, Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons careens from enlightening epiphanies to dark truths as the battle between science and religion turns to war. The film will be in theaters in May 2009.
