French artist, Gerard Brion, loves Paris in the springtime. He loves it year round, in fact, and has demonstrated this passion for the City of Lights by spending the last 15 years creating a body of work dedicated to it….a miniature version of Paris made from recycled materials such as soup cans, baby food jars and other discards destined for the rubbish bin.
Paris landmarks including the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Sacré Coeur began to show up in his flower beds a decade and a half ago, and as his skills improved, his passion for the project grew. These days, it is his obsession. Brion spends many hours in his studio each week, handcrafting his authentic-looking miniature creations and finishing them down to the smallest details.
Brion has, from time-to-time, lent small sections of his cityscape to a museum in Paris that exhibits miniatures exclusively. However, his work is created for his own enjoyment right in his own back yard and is generally not open to the public other than for small groups once or twice a week. Hopefully, this will change in the near future.

On our walk this morning we found “First Love” at the annual Maplecrest neighborhood garage sale. Fortunately we were there early and purchased this handsome sketch for a mere dollar.
Entitled, “First Love” the carefully rendered pencil drawing truly illustrates what first love really means. This image is circa. 1992 and the artist is unknown. We will entertain serious offers should any collector be interested.

Peter Parker is swinging back into the muliplex—but not for a while. “Spider-Man” producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment in the web-slinging superhero series is tentatively scheduled to arrive in May 2011. In remarks Thursday to theater owners from California and Nevada, Ziskin said there was no finished screenplay, but that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful “Spider-Man 4” could be ready in three years’ time. The first three movies comprise one of the most successful franchises in modern Hollywood history, grossing a combined $2.5 billion worldwide. Neither star Tobey Maguire nor director Sam Raimi is yet committed to work on the next installment. But Sony has paid Marvel to renew its rights.
