Does Anyone Want to Spend $4,500 for a New 007 Book?

June 10, 2008

Thousands of people tried to obtain one of the 300 limited edition copies offered by Penguin last week of the new James Bond book, Devil May Care.

Designed by Bentley, the high-end car manufacturer, each copy cost £750 or $1500, and sold out within minutes. Today, the first Bentley copy has appeared on AbeBooks.com offered by Pages of Boston.

The Bentley edition of Devil May Care is bound in Burnt Oak leather from an Italian tannery. The leather casing is stitched in the Bentley diamond pattern. The Bentley ‘Flying B’ adorns the front cover and spine. Each edition is individually identified by a number on a black lacquer machined aluminum plate. Each book block is die-cut with a car-shaped silhouette and into this die-cut hole is inserted a cast and polished 1:43 scale model of the modified R Type which James Bond drove.

Diem Chau’s Carved Crayons

June 10, 2008

These are storytelling crayons, carved meticulously to show the absolute finest details of honor, courage, and sometimes humor in the characters faces. The Seattle based artist Diem Chau was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1979, and says “I consider myself an artist whose medium is stories, especially those that are primarily passed on orally. Coming from a nomadic childhood, what few possessions my family had were necessities. The things of greatest value to us were stories contributed by friends and family. Embedded in these stories are connections to the past, our culture and an occasional escape from reality.” Check out the dozens of carved crayons, pictures, illustrations and beautiful work at this link.
