Stan Lee was my childhood idol and I always wanted to meet him when I would visit my grandparents in New York. Stan created popular comic book characters like Spiderman, The Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, Thor and countless others. He truly is a legend in the comic book industry and at 86 years young still continues to develop characters today.
Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet him so I decided to call him and ask him if he would sign a book for me. He kindly accepted and sent me back the book today.
The book that I chose is a very rare slip cased hardcover edition entitled “Fantastic Firsts” that showcases the origins of many of Marvel’s key characters. This book was printed in 1994 and had a very small print run. It was only made available to comic store owners and not sold elsewhere. The inscription states:
“To Good Ol’ Larry –
Best Wishes to a longtime Marvel fan & a Titanic True Believer.
Excelsior!
Stan Lee”
Thanks Stan, I will cherish this book forever!

I just met him in Los Angeles at a signing yesterday and he was the coolest guy. He took time with each person and signed everything and anything (even over the two per person limit). It’s too easy for people like Stan to be a diva at public appearances, but nothing of the sort with him. He really seems to enjoy meeting his fans and talking with them. A true living legend and I’m so glad to have met him (and to shake the man’s hand) even for 1 minute.
